I have a special liking for stone houses. They are rare to find and most of the newly built ones are of poor construction. In traditional stone-building craftsmen chisel the stones, so that neighboring stone pieces are in full contact with one another. This is exactly where the difficulty of this craft lies. The mortar between the stones should not be visible but only slightly at the joints, from a close view. Modern "stone" structures are different; they are usually made by cladding brick or concrete walls by stone tiles and even these are just random pieces of stone buried into the mortar. In a recent visit to Edipsos, I found this beautiful stone house and took a picture of it.
